KOTA KINABALU: Shell has reversed an earlier plan to close down its petrol stations in Sabah following a series of discussions with the state government.

“The state government welcomes the good news,” Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said, commenting on Shell Timur Sdn Bhd’s announcement not to proceed with the closure of its 34 petrol stations in Sabah effective January next year.

Following Shell’s announcement of the impending closure last June, Hajiji met with the chairman of Shell Malaysia, Siti Hurrairah Sulaiman to discuss the matter.

“We brought this issue to the attention of the federal government and we appreciate its sensitivity to the situation in Sabah…we appreciate that they have listened,” the Chief Minister said.
