KOTA KINABALU: For the first time ever, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) will be holding its Annual Delegates’ Conference virtually, in compliance with the Movement Control Order (MCO) 3.0 standard operation procedures (SOP).

Secretary-General Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said PBS 35th Annual Delegates conference tomorrow (Jun 17) will be officiated by President Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.

The conference proceedings would be followed by delegates “attending” it virtually from their respective divisions in compliance, he said here today.

The virtual conference would be attended by 640 delegates from 57 divisions, which have successfully held their respective annual general meetings, as well as Supreme Council Members, and from the Youth and Wanita wings.

Bangkuai said the delegates’ conference would begin with the Youth Movement meeting, followed by that of the Women Movement, and culminate with the main conference in the afternoon.

On the president’s policy speech, Bangkuai said Dr Maximus is expected to focus on the way forward for the State’s oldest local political entity.

He said the party president would also likely touch on the rejuvenation process in the party, the need to uphold political values on integrity and principles, as well as on current issues.

Formed in 1985 with Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan as its founding president, PBS is the oldest surviving political party in Sabah and ruled the State from 1985 to 1994.

Despite the numerous challenges faced by PBS over the years, including defections of its elected representatives to other parties, the party continues to be represented, both in Parliament and in the State Assembly.

Bangkuai said the conference would also see the launching of the party’s newly-developed apps for online membership application by the president.-BorneoGazette
